About Awesome Lisbon

Why we built an independent Lisbon guide, how it's actually written, and what "no paid placement" means in practice.

Updated August 2026 Written by the Awesome Lisbon team

Why we built this

Most Lisbon content online falls into two camps: generic listicles clearly written without ever visiting, or heavily monetised sites where the "best hotel" recommendation happens to be whoever pays the highest affiliate commission. Awesome Lisbon is an attempt at a third option — a growing, honestly written reference built the way we'd want to use it ourselves.

How it's written

Every guide is written to answer a real question a traveller would actually have, checked against current, reliable information at the time of publishing, and written in plain language without artificial keyword stuffing. We'd rather have 30 pages we're proud of than 300 we're not.

What "no paid placement" means

We don't accept payment to rank a hotel, restaurant or tour operator higher than our honest assessment, and we don't take sponsored posts disguised as guides. Where the site does eventually carry any commercial links, they won't change what we recommend or how we rank it.

How the site grows

New guides are added at least weekly, more often two or three times a week. Places and Things to Do grow fastest, since there's simply more ground in Lisbon to cover; Plan and About change more rarely, only when something genuinely useful needs adding. Follow News & Updates to see what's new.
